Cooking With Herbs Activity
For my dad's birthday, I decided to make him his favorite meal, seasoned chicken.
The marinade involves garlic (Allium sativum.) While garlic is technically a vegetable, like onions and shallots, it has many uses similar to herbs medicinally and in cooking. For this recipe, I added a teaspoon of garlic along with two teaspoons of rosemary, both purchased at a local organic grocery store.
The next thing the recipe called for was a tablespoon of pure lemon extract.
After the lemon extract, I added a tablespoon of vinegar.
After the marinade was mixed up, I brushed it very lightly over the chicken and saved the rest as a dressing, sprinkled some cilantro on top, and combined it with a spinach salad for a fresh and healthy dinner. My family, including my father, mother, sister, and brother in law all ate this dish and loved it. The herbs really brought out the flavor of the chicken and combined well with each other. I enjoyed cooking with herbs and will definitely do it again.
